Citi has been studying and gathering enough resources that would help them come up with a list of 3G countries. 3G or Global Growth Generators are countries that promise growth and Citi made public the countries included in their list. The eleven countries named were Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Mongolia, Nigeria, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. The countries mentioned may be very familiar to some since these are the same countries cited by other investment banks. Citi, though, clarifies and makes a distinction that their list is different since for them growth is what a country must possess to be able to be tagged as a 3G country.
According to Citi’s economist, developing or emerging against developed or advanced or mature, BRIC, the Next Eleven, the Seven Percent Club, are concepts that Citi does not find helpful anymore. Their new concept, they believe, provides hope for some countries that are disregarded by other lists that are more traditional and concentrates only on emerging markets.
Ireland, Canada, Australia, and even the U.S. could someday, in theory, be labeled as Global Growth Generator countries
